Versus: Electric & 120 Palettes

Reviews, Series, Versus

I’m very excited to share this post with you. I recently purchased the new Urban Decay Electric palette, and I love it. However, there are people who may not use colors like this often enough to want to spend $49 on it.

Of course the first thing that’s a pretty big deal is that there are 110 more colors in the 120 than the Electric palette. I personally haven’t gone without a 120 in 3 years, I always keep one on hand, at the price its hard to find a reason to not have one. The current price of a 120 on the BH Cosmetics website (the company I happen to get mine from) is $15.95, which is something like .13 cents per color (the palette I used for this post was purchased for $12.95 during a sale). The Electric palette is $49 for 10, which is a little under $5 per color.

Sure we can talk about quality all day long, but how many of you reading this wear an eye-shadow primer everyday, no matter what brand of shadows you use? The below swatch is on my forearm with no primer, swatched with the same finger, cleaned between each swatch. I only had to custom mix for Urban and Trash to get a close enough dupe.

Of course they are not exact matches, which is not how “dupes” work. Some are cooler, warmer, or don’t have the duo-chrome finish. However having the ability to custom mix any of these colors to suit your taste, or skin-tone is fantastic.

I’ve used my 120 long enough to say that its worth having, before Urban Decay put Electric out, the 120 was my go-to for bright colors. Below I’ve put together some of my older looks with a 120 and newer looks with Electric, there is no way to tell a difference between them, except for me telling you which they are!

Yes the colors are smaller in the 120, but like I said before there are 110 more to choose from. I’ve seen in quite a few reviews on the Electric where people wanted a yellow…. fancy that, there’s a row and a half of yellow in a 120.

I do love the Electric palette (click here for my full review on it)but I also know that not everyone is going to wear these sorts of colors as often as I will, and certainly wouldn’t pay $49 for it.

I hope this post is helpful, please comment below if you have any questions. You can also hit me up on Facebook and Twitter.

  1. woop! I love this comparison and dupe post! I have the 120 first edition so it’s awesome to know that I have Electric dupes in it 😀

    1. Yay!! I was excited to find them, I just sat around one day thinking… I wonder if I could match them all! I like that there are more options in it.. lighter, darker, wamer, cooler.

      1. Yeah the 120 palettes are awesome & cheap! Buy some of the shades stain my lids a bit which sucks.

      2. Yeah the pinks and purples, but the 120 did stain less than the Electric. My staining doesn’t last through washing my face though.

      3. Well that’s a plus! It lasted like a day on me. But if your putting on makeup it doesn’t really matter anyway

  2. This is a great guide for people how are not sure if the Electric is worth it. I love the 120s! You get so many colours and the price is unbeatable 🙂

  3. I’ve never gotten anything from BH Cosmetics but I need a new palette with vibrant colours, so great timing for you to be doing this post lol
I am going on their website right now!

      1. I’ll definitely do a post about it!
Have you ever gotten anything else from them? Lipsticks or lipglosses? I am just looking at them and was wondering if you knew if they’re any good.

  4. This pallet is totally you! I just hope I can work myself up to being as bold as you. You wear the colors so beautifully! I need to start practicing, because I just feel like a clown when I wear these type of colors, but you have some magical way with them! TOTALLY jealous! 🙂

  5. This was super helpful! I’d wanted to get the Electric palette mainly for Thrash, and I didn’t even realize I’ve got a dupe for that color sitting unused in a dusty corner of my makeup collection. Probably time to bust out the 120 palette and give it some love 🙂
