Review: Urban Decay Naked Smoky

Reviews

From the Urban Decay website:
“The key to nailing the most sought-after and elusive eye look ever? Naked Smoky—loaded with ALL the essentials you need for the perfect neutral smoky eye. A true range of shades. The perfect brushes. And detailed tutorials.

Smoky open

“We packed this palette with a dozen sultry, smoky neutrals, including nine never-before-seen shades and three exclusives from past palettes. Experiment with warm bronzes, dimensional grays, rich browns, gorgeous taupes and deep black. From mattes and satins to shades with sparkle, Naked Smoky has it all. Each shade in Naked Smoky features our Pigment Infusion System™, the proprietary blend of ingredients that gives every shade its velvety texture, rich color, serious staying power and blendability.”

What’s inside?
This palette features four shimmer, four satin, and four matte finish shadows, all neatly packaged in a sleek transparent smoke effect case with a sturdy magnetic closure.  Nine of these colors are brand new, and three are repromotes. It comes with a double sided blending-pencil brush, a large mirror and a  detailed lookbook.

Smoky Swatches

Swatched on arm, with no primer (Click to view larger)

“High (champagne shimmer w/micro-glitter), Dirtysweet (medium bronze), Radar (metallic taupe w/iridescent micro-glitter), Armor (metallic silver-taupe w/tonal sparkle), Slanted (light metallic gray), Dagger (medium charcoal w/micro-shimmer), Black Market (jet-black satin), Smolder (deep plum-taupe), Password (cool taupe matte), Whiskey (rich brown matte), Combust (soft pink-taupe) and Thirteen (light beige satin).”

Of the Four Naked palettes, this may be the “one palette to rule them all”. It has the best of all its predecessors, dark smokey colors, blending and highlight colors, as well as daytime golds and taupe/grays. Of course this may not be applicable for all skin tones, but for me and my blue eyes, I could probably use this palette, and this palette alone for the next year!!

  1. Such a beautiful palette and those swatches rock! I don’t think blue/cold tones suit me very well but I would use the shit out of the other ones hahhaaa These colors look stunning on you though 😍
Great job Shane! He really knows he’s thing. He’s like a manager for you or something 😀
Well, good luck for me and happy Friday love!

    1. Whiskey and combust are great blending colors, I mix them together and blend my crease, Password isn’t a bad blending color, if you’re looking for a darker blend. Thirteen and Combust are highlight colors I use everyday now, sometimes I mix those to.

I prefer the darker taupe colors for my smokey colors but that’s just me.

I have actually been using this as a day palette, Password, Whiskey, Combust, Thirteen, and High together make my everyday eye look.

  2. I thought I already commented, but I guess it didn’t show up. Anyway, I actually don’t own any of the Naked Palettes but this looks pretty versatile. PS your hubby is so sweet and thoughtful to surprise you like that! 😀
